Over the course of this term 1st Owlsmoor Scouts have been working towards their Cyclist badge.
After covering the areas of the badge that could be worked into the evening program - Safety, Control, Repairing a Puncture and Highway Code, all that was left to do was a 26 mile bike ride.
So on Saturday 29th June, 5 Scouts, 2 leaders and 2 helpers set off from Shepherd's Meadow in Sandhurst. The Scouts had planned the route which was to follow the Blackwater Valley Path and when that meets the Basingstoke Canal head down the tow path towards Fleet. The Scouts saw some lovely Hampshire countryside along with the wildlife that lives along the river.
Even for fit and healthy Scouts, the bike ride was a little harder than they thought it was going to be. But they reached the half-way point where they had their lunch / refreshments. Once refreshed they started back towards Shepherd's meadow only stopping again to take some refreshments as the sun was now out and getting very hot.
We arrived back in Shepherd's Meadow at 15:30 hrs after covering a total distance of 26.1 miles in a total time of 6 hrs 05 mins. Everyone was pleased to see the car park again at Shepherd's Meadow - especially the GSL!
The Scouts had achieved their objective and really enjoyed the day. Well done 1st Owlsmoor Scouts!
