1st Owlsmoor slay the Thames Dragons!
1st Owlsmoor Scouts came first in the County Dragon Boating competition at the Wokingham Waterside Centre on Sunday 20th May. Our team "Dragon Swimmers" had to compete in 4 races. We came second in our first race, won our second race, won our semi-final and then went on to beat 52nd Reading Scouts in the final race.
The Scouts worked together to ensure that they rowed in harmony which resulted in them leading the final from the start; they won by more than a length at the finish. This is the first time that a South Berkshire Scout group has won this event which has been a County event for the past 3 years. We have won a trophy which will be engraved and we will keep for a year. We will then defend our trophy next year. Comments from the Scouts were "It was amazing fun", "I never thought we would win" and "It's harder than it looks".
The GSL commented that the Scouts worked hard in their races and this is the first time they have ever won a race, let alone winning the competition. We are very proud of our Scouts.
Well done to all that took part; it just goes to show that working hard together, doing your best and having fun is what Scouting is all about.
Many Owlsmoor parents stayed to cheer their Scouts on and this also encouraged the Scouts to "do their best". Well done 1st Owlsmoor!
